Serving the Heart of Gilutongan Island

On August 20, 2022, Circulo Boholano de Cebu, Inc. (CBCI), together with its esteemed partners—the Department of Health (DOH), Rotaract Club of Cebu Fuente Community Based, Philippine Nurses Association (PNA), and Villar SIPAG Foundation—embarked on a meaningful mission to serve the vibrant community of Gilutongan Island, Cordova, Cebu. This outreach program exemplified CBCI’s unwavering dedication to uplifting the lives of Filipino families through compassion, collaboration, and holistic service.

Courtesy Visit to the Mayor of Cordova

Before heading to the island, the group paid a courtesy visit to the office of Cordova City Mayor Didoy Suan. Mayor Suan warmly welcomed the team and expressed his gratitude for their dedication to community service. This meeting underscored the importance of collaboration between organizations and local governments in creating sustainable and impactful outreach initiatives.

A Day of Service on Gilutongan Island

The program reached approximately 300 families on Gilutongan Island, offering a variety of services and support aimed at improving their well-being. The highlight of the day was the distribution of Essential Health Care packages, which included:

  • Germicidal Soap (4 pieces per pack)
  • Fluoride Toothpaste (500ml)
  • Toothbrushes (8 pieces per pack)

These packages were designed to promote personal hygiene and prevent common health issues.

Additionally, the team provided:

  • Hundreds of Medicines: Addressing various medical needs and ensuring that residents had access to essential medications.
  • Bottled Waters: Supporting hydration and access to clean drinking water.
  • Writing Supplies: Encouraging education and supporting the needs of local children.
  • Old Clothing: Offering relief to families in need of basic necessities.

Medical Consultations and Feeding Program

A dedicated team of healthcare professionals conducted medical consultations to address the health concerns of the residents. This included diagnosing illnesses, offering medical advice, and prescribing treatments to ensure the community’s well-being.

Meanwhile, a feeding program for children brought smiles and nourishment to the island’s youngest residents. The joy on the children’s faces as they enjoyed their meals reflected the heartwarming impact of the outreach.

CBCI Volunteers and Partners

CBCI volunteers, led by their president Christopher Sapong, worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the program. Their dedication and coordination were pivotal in creating a meaningful and organized initiative.

This program would not have been possible without the invaluable contributions of CBCI’s partners:

  • Department of Health (DOH): Provided healthcare expertise and resources.
  • Rotaract Club of Cebu Fuente Community Based: Brought youthful energy and dedication to the initiative.
  • Philippine Nurses Association (PNA): Delivered skilled nursing care and assistance.
  • Villar SIPAG Foundation: Played a vital role in logistics and support.

Local assistance was also instrumental, particularly from Mr. Renel Bagiou, an active member of the community who runs a free tutorial center for the island’s children. His efforts in coordinating the program and mobilizing the residents were crucial to its success.

Impact and Legacy

The outreach program on Gilutongan Island demonstrated the power of collaboration in addressing community needs. By serving approximately 300 families, the initiative not only improved immediate health and well-being but also fostered a spirit of hope and unity. The Essential Health Care packages, feeding program, medical consultations, and other donations created a ripple effect of positivity that will continue to resonate within the community.

Moving Forward

CBCI remains committed to its mission of service and empowerment, building bridges of compassion and care for underserved communities. Through partnerships with organizations, local governments, and dedicated individuals, the group aims to extend its reach and impact even further.

As we reflect on the success of the Gilutongan outreach program, we are reminded of the importance of working together to uplift the lives of those in need. With each initiative, CBCI reaffirms its role as a steadfast advocate for community well-being.
