CBCI Distributes Food Packs to Stranded Boholanos Due to Border Lockdown Because of COVID-19 Virus

Because of COVID-19, countless individuals found themselves stranded far from home, struggling to meet their basic needs due to lockdowns and travel restrictions. Among those severely affected were Boholanos in Cebu City, Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City, Talisay City, and nearby areas. Recognizing this urgent need, Circulo Boholano de Cebu, Inc. (CBCI) stepped up to bring aid and relief during these challenging times.

Food Packs for Stranded Boholanos

On May 10, 2020, CBCI received a significant donation of food packs from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) through the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Maribojoc, Bohol. This initiative demonstrated the power of collaboration and the commitment of various organizations to support those in need.

The food packs, containing essential goods to sustain families and individuals, were distributed to stranded Boholanos in multiple cities within Cebu. CBCI volunteers, guided by their spirit of service and compassion, took the lead in ensuring the efficient distribution of these food packs to the affected communities. Their tireless efforts served as a lifeline for those struggling during the pandemic’s peak.

Collaboration and Coordination

This humanitarian effort was made possible through the coordination between CBCI’s leadership and the local government officials. CBCI President Christopher Sapong worked closely with Maribojoc Vice Mayor Boyet Castilla to facilitate the smooth transfer and distribution of the food packs. Their teamwork and dedication ensured that the aid reached the right people at the right time.

Impact on the Community

The food distribution program not only addressed the immediate needs of the stranded Boholanos but also reinforced a sense of unity and shared purpose within the community. It highlighted the values of compassion, generosity, and bayanihan—qualities that define the Filipino spirit, especially during times of crisis.

For those who received the food packs, the act of kindness offered more than just sustenance; it provided hope and reassurance that they were not forgotten. It was a reminder that even in the darkest times, there are people and organizations willing to extend a helping hand.

A Legacy of Service

CBCI’s efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic exemplify the organization’s unwavering commitment to serving the Boholano community, wherever they may be. The successful coordination with NGCP, the LGU of Maribojoc, and the dedication of CBCI volunteers underscore the importance of solidarity and collaboration in overcoming challenges.

As CBCI continues its mission of service and community building, this initiative stands as a testament to the power of unity and compassion. It serves as an inspiring example of how communities can come together to support one another, even in the most trying circumstances.
